The Shropshire Community Leisure Trust has announced that it has signed up to the Shropshire Armed Forces Covenant - in a move that will look to improve service personnel’s prospects as they transition back into civilian life.

The signing means that The Trust, who run Market Drayton Swimming & Fitness Centre, The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village and Oswestry Leisure Centre, have made a commitment to the scheme – which looks to ensure that, not only are service people and their families not neglected in society, but are given more opportunities in employment and the wider community.

One of the key principles of the Covenant is that “members of the Armed Forces community should not face disadvantages arising from their service in the provision of public and commercial services” - and this commitment will be upheld by offering catered services to help the Shropshire armed forces community into a more structured lifestyle.

Russell Price, a Trustee for the Shropshire Community Leisure Trust said, The Trust is looking forward to working with local representatives and organisations to support the health and well-being of the Armed Forces community in Shropshire.”

Sarah Kerr, Shropshire’s Armed Forces Outreach Support Coordinator, said: “Shropshire Council Armed Forces team are very pleased that Shropshire Community Leisure Trust have signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

“This shows public commitment to honour and support Shropshire's Armed Forces community and working with them to promote local activities and initiatives to support Service Personnel, Veterans and their families.”

The Shropshire Community Leisure Trust is right at the start of its commitment to helping the Armed Forces community in Shropshire and community events and initiatives will increase throughout the year.
