Rod Lewis, Table Tennis enthusiast, has donated 5 Table Tennis tables to Shrewsbury Sports Village that were used in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, hosted in Birmingham.

After being housebound for 21 years with OCD and being in a wheelchair due to a sedentary lifestyle, Rod met his partner who inspired and encouraged him to get back into Table Tennis, which has lead him to start devoting his life to help others in a similar situation to himself by setting up clubs and donating equipment to get people active and well again.

Rod bought 20 Table Tennis tables with his own money and donated them to 8 venues in and around Shropshire. He has also donated the World’s first Table Tennis Therapy Tables to clubs, hospitals, community centres and care homes nationwide which are primarily used to help reverse the effects of Alzheimer’s, which is close to Rod’s heart as his mother and carer were diagnosed with this.

Rod run’s Butterfly Lilleshall, which brings together two of the greatest names in Table Tennis. Butterfly is the World’s foremost table tennis company, and Lilleshall invented table tennis coaching and attracted top players in much the same way as England football.

Rod is also a trustee of the BAT Foundation, which provides drug free therapy for Alzheimer’s, which currently has a number of exciting collaborations in the pipeline with the Princes Trust and Invictus games, alongside others, to deliver table tennis therapy on medically approved therapy tables.

He is also in the process of starting a multi-condition table tennis therapy charity working with patients suffering from Dementia, Parkinson’s, Mental illness, Cerebral Palsy, blindness, and limbless soldiers. Rod is also partners with Butterfly, with the aim of starting Butterfly sponsored clubs all across the world of which Shrewsbury Sports Village is the first, to help people get active with the World’s No.1 Brain Sport, Table Tennis.
