High-Protein Veggie Burgers

A simple, high-protein veggie burger made with mashed chickpeas and black beans. Packed with flavour and plant-based goodness, these burgers are hearty and satisfying while still feeling light and fresh, perfect for an easy, nourishing dinner.

Serves 2 (2 burger patties per person)

  • 240g canned chickpeas (drained & rinsed)
  • 100g canned black beans (drained & rinsed)
  • 60g oats
  • 1 medium carrot carrot (finely grated)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 medium egg 
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Step 1: In a large bowl, mash the chickpeas and black beans with a fork until mostly broken down but still a bit chunky.

Step 2: Mix in oats, carrot, onion, garlic, egg, soy sauce, and spices.

Step 3: Divide into 4 equal portions (120–130g each) and shape into burgers.

Step 4: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until golden and firm.

Step 5: Serve in buns with lettuce and sliced tomatoes. You could add 40g crumbled feta cheese for extra protein
